Just another WordPress.com weblog
When Maverick Entertainment Group sent me a copy of Friday at Dewayne’s to write about on this blog, it was almost as if I was being thrown into a time warp. I went back to a time when parents just didn’t understand, girls of the world were nothing but trouble and those silly-looking eraser-head hairdos were the fashion of the day.
However, by the time I was done, I had well returned from my little trip, as New Jack Swing music was nowhere to be heard and not a single eraser-head was in sight. Friday at Dewayne’s, though, does convey the spirit of those classics of the late 80s and early 90s.
Dewayne sees a golden opportunity to throw the largest house party of all time, when his parents leave for a vacation that he has conveniently opted out of by faking a sickness. However, he must first get past his grandmother, who’s taken up caring for him in his parents’ stead, as well as an overly inquisitive principal who’s determined to expel him, an overactive wannabe girlfriend and a hodgepodge of other obstacles that stand between him and the finest night of his life.
